A Story of Roots, Waves, and Flavor

Food is more than just what’s on your plat it’s a journey, a connection, and a story told through flavors

I’ve always believed that food is more than just something to eat

It’s an experience
,a story told through flavors, and a way to bring people together.

That belief is at the
core of Sabores de ChingCaja

Lessons at the Table: More Than Just a Meal

I didn’t always realize how much it meant to me, but looking back, I can see it in everything.

It started at home, with my mom teaching us how to eat everything, making the best pizzas in the world, sitting properly at the table, how to eat with care and appreciation. I remember wondering why it even mattered why we had to sit up straight, why we had to eat “outside in.” I was just a kid, not dining at some fancy restaurant. But of course, she knew better. She was preparing us for something bigger.

Ben: The Man Who Brought the Ocean to Our Table

Then there was or is Ben, my bonus dad, who introduced us to food in a completely different way. He wasn’t or is just any man he was a true craftsman, running a fish company that supplied some of the best restaurants in the Netherlands. I grew up watching him work really hard bringing the freshest lobsters and later seafood straight from the harbor to the hands of top chefs.

To me, it was normal to eat the best fish, to celebrate birthdays with whole sides of smoked salmon, going to famous 'haring parties' have lobster as a celebration dinner or to roll my eyes when we had cod or any fish again.

It wasn’t until later that I realized how rare and special that was.

From the Kitchen to the Industry

I grew up in the Netherlands, where food was always a big part of my life. I developed a deep appreciation for food and the industry without even realizing it. That love naturally led me into hospitality, where I spent over a decade working in restaurants, events, hotels, and food service. I didn’t just learn about fine dining I saw how food creates memories, can bring people together, and leave a lasting impact.

Over time, my passion took me behind the scenes, into the core of the food industry. For over five years, I worked as a Sales Manager for a international food service company, working closely with top chefs, restaurants, and hotels. My role wasn’t just about supplying ingredients; it was about truly understanding what kitchens need, sourcing the best products, and making sure chefs had everything required to bring their vision to life. I got to see the full picture how food moves from supplier to plate, the daily pressures of a busy kitchen, and the relationships that hold everything together.

Bringing It All Together

Then, life took me to Mexico; a new chapter, a new adventure, and a chance to bring everything I’ve learned into something truly my own. That’s how Sabores de ChingCaja was born. But for me, this isn’t just a business. It’s a reflection of everything I love about food quality, connection, sustainability, and the joy of sharing incredible flavors with people who truly appreciate them.

Built Together

And I don’t do this alone. This is possible because of you—because of the incredible food community we have in Puerto, the suppliers who bring us the best ingredients, the chefs who inspire, and the creators who push the boundaries of flavor. Together, we’re building something special.

So, let’s keep growing. Let’s keep creating more smiles at the table, more unforgettable meals, and more food made straight from the heart. Whether you’re a chef, a home cook, a food lover, or just someone who believes in the power of good food—I’d love to hear from you. Reach out, connect, be part of this journey. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share it with you. ❤️
